Lemonade and St. Jude

So I have a rule that anytime I see a lemonade stand….I have to stop and go buy a cup.

Mainly because, I just love lemonade. But also, the kids (or adults) usually light up when you stop in and that’s always a nice feeling when you can make someone smile.

I also just love to make small talk with people, so stopping at a lemonade stand is a must.

I saw one this afternoon and so, as usual, I stopped in to just get a cup. I could tell they were selling more, but I was only interested in the lemonade.

But when I pulled up to the tent a big sign out front said “St. Jude Fundraiser.” It was then that I knew I’d be getting more than just a refreshing drink.

See, I was a patient at St. Jude. When I was 6-years-old, I was sent there because doctors thought I had a tumor in my arm.

I got sent through MRIs, cat scans, and way too many painful tests that are scary for a little boy.

Thankfully, I did not have a tumor. The mass in my arm was only a cyst. However, I did have to have surgery to remove it.

But St. Jude has always been a special place to me because of my time there and I try to give back whenever I have the chance.

So today, I was more than happy to buy a few extra baked goods (some really good sugar cookies) to go along with my lemonade.
